Greek Eating 101 - Why You Should Include Olive Oil in Your Diet on A Daily Basis

Eating healthy is probably the best thing you can do for yourself.  Your body requires the proper "fuel" in order to function correctly and when certain vitamins or minerals are missing you will feel the repercussions of that in your day to day.

Greek cuisine, along with other Mediterranean cuisines, is known to be one of the healthiest cuisines.  The Greek people have been known to have of the most well balanced diets there are.  Their diets are healthy not necessarily because they try to eat certain foods, but because many of the foods that are grown in the country are "super foods" and they have gotten accustom to eating that way.

Lets take it one thing at a time.  Olive oil for example, is one of the best things you can add to your diet.  I do not think there is a Greek out there that doesn't eat their salad with olive oil.  As I was growing up, I thought that that was the only type of cooking oil that existed.  I was so used to eating it all the time in salads and in all the foods my mother cooked that it was very familiar to me.

Why olive oil though?  What is so great about it?  Firstly, olive oil carries large amounts of plant-derived anti-oxidants, phyto-sterols, and vitamins. It is recognized as one of the healthiest edible oils since it contains less saturated fats than other edible oils.  Olive oil is also very rich in vitamins and minerals.  Youcan find more information about olive oil by clicking the following link: Olive oil facts.
